Log On For Free WiFi And Fight Breast Cancer

On October 31, Gogo Inflight Internet will be free on all Gogo-equipped Delta flights and for each free session that day, Aircell will donate $1 to The Breast Cancer Research Foundation, up to $10,000. Additionally, all Gogo proceeds from the Pink Plane in the month of October will be donated to The Breast Cancer Research Foundation.

Customers can help support the Foundation’s mission to achieve prevention and a cure for breast cancer in our lifetime by accessing Gogo on their Gogo-equipped Delta flight this Saturday for free using the code GOPINK.

Why Can’t Every Day Be Pink?

Delta raised the bar this year with its breast cancer awareness and fundraising efforts. This year’s highlights include:

· Melissa Etheridge performing an in-flight concert for approximately 60 employee breast cancer survivors on Delta’s signature Pink Plane.

· Delta employees staffing 25 Pink Boutiques at airports and other Delta facilities across the system. The Boutiques featured a variety of clothing and other pink accessories with all proceeds benefiting BCRF.

· Onboard, flight attendants sold pink lemonade donated by The Coca-Cola Company as a fundraiser and accepted donations from customers.

· Employees used their attire to show support. Some flight attendants sported special pink versions of Delta’s signature dress while other customer-facing employees donned pink shirts, ties, pocket squares and other accessories.

· A variety of individual actions demonstrated employee support for the fundraising efforts, including MSP-based flight attendant Heinie Lund doing backflips in the galley to raise donations. He and fellow flight attendant Vicki McCutchan have raised more than $4,200 to date.

These are just a few of the ways Delta people took Flight for the Fight in October. To hear firsthand some of our employee survivor stories, check out the YouTube video above.

Back in Atlanta Again

Welcome to Atlanta…or back to Atlanta! It’s been two months since I’ve been home, and when I’m used to being at my house in Atlanta every night, two months away does seem pretty strange. I’m really looking forward to sleeping in my own bed, sitting on my own couch, and making that routine drive down I-85 to Turner Field.

I was lucky to have an off day to spend in Atlanta before playing a three game series against the Braves Tuesday through Thursday. No set plans for my visit yet, but I’m sure it will include lunch at Chick-fil-a (and who knows, maybe breakfast too!), a little golf at Hawks Ridge, hanging out with my wife Catie and our dogs at home, and visiting my family in Lilburn. I may even find time to do a little shopping for a couple of ATV’s to use down at our family farm during the offseason. Not sure what kind yet, so any suggestions would be great.

It will also be fun to see my former Braves teammates and friends. I’m sure Catie and I will have dinner and catch up with Brian (McCann) and his wife Ashley while we’re in town.

A few days after being traded to the Mets back in July, I traveled with my new club down to Atlanta to take on the Braves. Although I was in enemy colors, I had a great reception from the fans. I’m looking forward to that again.

It won’t be much longer until I’m back in Atlanta for a few months during the offseason. I’ll check back in with you guys soon and fill you in on my plans for the break!

Carson: Pre-Season Opener in the Big Easy

After a few months “vacation” I hope you guys are excited for the start of the football season. It’s been a busy off-season for me, namely working hard to get healthy and preparing for what I hope to be a great 2009 season.

This past weekend we opened up the pre-season in New Orleans. My buddy, Corey Vavala, lives down there and he picked up my brother and I and gave us the insider’s tour of New Orleans. We drove down Bourbon Street and could see all the people getting cranked up for the first Saints home game (we also saw this lady who dresses her dog exactly like her… I gave her a high five because she was wearing Bengals colors). After Bourbon Street we drove through the French Quarter and you could just feel the history and tradition in the air. As we approached the bridge heading into the lower 9th Ward, Corey prepped us for the range of emotions we were expected to feel. The sadness was almost immediate as we saw about 15 standing houses in a place where there were previously thousands. Brad Pitt and Oprah are trying to do a lot to restore New Orleans but there is still so far to go. The mass amount of destruction caused by Hurricane Katrina definitely stung both Jordan and I with an array of emotions. Hearing it was one thing… but seeing it was something else.

After our tour we decided to get some good old Cajun cooking and headed to a place called Palace Cafe. The food was amazing. Everything from the fried alligator to the crab claws, the gumbo, the cheesecake… it was phenomenal. I’ve now crowned New Orleans as my favorite city to eat and want suggestions for my next time back there! Anyone?

I finally checked out of Georgetown College (where our training camp is and where they were filming Hard Knocks for HBO) and got to see my wife and kids for the first time in 2.5 weeks. In case you didn’t know, my wife and I had newborns earlier this year (a boy and a girl) and they’ve been quite a handful. As first time parents, we’ve definitely had our work cut out for us. I encourage any and all advice from those of you out there that have twins! Without question, they’re tougher than anything I’ve ever experienced in football (and a lot more rewarding)! I swear, in the two and a half weeks I was away, they grew and changed so much. They were a lot less excited to see me as I was to see them!

I’d also like to point out how wonderful Delta has been for us as new parents. My wife had to travel alone with both babies and Delta was unbelievably helpful not only letting parents with kids board early but also helping my wife get situated with the two kids. It’s something that I truly appreciated when I was in training camp and she called so impressed with the service. Then again, since they’ve been so wonderful in the past when we traveled with our Rottweiler, Homer, I wasn’t expecting anything less.

Keep on the lookout for more blogs from me throughout the year. I hope you are all well out there and make sure to send me questions!

Jeff: Sunday Countdown

Just thought I’d check in with everyone, especially because this time of year has me so excited! It’s the beginning of both the college football and NFL seasons, and most of you guys know that I’m a huge college football fan. (Go Tigers!) Had I not signed out of high school with the Braves, I would’ve played football and baseball at Clemson University. Now don’t get me wrong, this is also an exciting time of year for me in baseball, with October baseball right around the corner, but the anticipation of football season is great.

Growing up in the South, college football was “it.” The buzz about the season started well before preseason camps had even begun. Beginning in June we were talking about our teams, coaches, big matchups, injuries, quarterbacks, National Championships…you name it! Now we’re about two weeks out from opening weekend and, although I’m missing a lot of the college football banter back home, I’m still excited for College Gameday to be running all day Saturday. I’ll tune in Saturday morning to hear Herbstreit, Corso, and Fowler breaking down the big games and then head to the field for my own game. More often than not we’ll have a game on in the locker room while we’re getting ready. Once I’m back home in Atlanta after the season, I’m sure Catie and I will head out to Athens to see the Bulldogs play. And hopefully we’ll get up to Clemson for a game as well.

Preseason NFL games started a few weeks ago and it’s been a totally different feeling being here in New York for it. Here, the focus seems to be more on professional sports than college sports. There’s definitely a buzz about Sunday and Monday night football. I can’t wait to start seeing ESPN’s NFL commercials that count down to Monday night. I’m really hoping I can go to a Jets game or a Giants game. Any Sanchez or Manning fans here?? I’m not sure if I’ll end up pulling for one New York team over another, but I’ll probably always be pulling for the Atlanta Falcons since I grew up down there.

A lot of guys in the Majors still find time to do Fantasy Football Leagues. Many of us played football in high school and some even played in college, so we’re still completely wrapped up in the game even though we’re playing baseball for a living. And while trash talk is always common in the locker room and on the field, football trash talk reaches a whole new level. I’ve seen (and possibly participated in) heated debates about one college/NFL team over another. I love it.

Well I’m sure this blog may have thrown some people off a little bit…thinking you were going to read about me and baseball! I just figured I’d switch things up this time. Happy College Gameday, Sunday Countdown, and Tailgating seasons! But don’t forget about the MLB boys for the next couple of months either…we play every day and those football guys only have to play once a week.

Talk to you soon!
