Master Mixology 101: Luxurious Libations Are Landing At The Delta Sky Club

Today we’re excited to announce the Delta Sky Club’s new Luxury Bar! It has arrived in the Newark, New York (JFK and LGA), Palm Beach, Seattle and Washington, DC (DCA) Clubs and is coming soon to additional locations. The new Luxury Bar offers premium wines, champagne and spirits for purchase, plus you’ll also be able to purchase master mixologist-created specialty cocktails including “Wheels Up” and “The Take Off”

We sat down with Elayne Duke, head mixologist for Diageo Wine and Spirits, our new premium wine and spirits partner, to learn more about the creations and what inspired them.

Q: Thanks for sitting down with us, Elayne. So first things first—what exactly is a mixologist, and how did you become one?

Becoming an accomplished mixologist took years of study and practice with the legends of our craft.  Taking countless classes, reading every book about the craft and working with the finest luxury spirits have developed me as a mixologist

A mixologist is somebody who has the passion for the art of creating delicious well balanced drinks, who takes pride in his/her craft and is dedicated to delivering a premium experience.

Q: What inspired your drink creations for the Delta Sky Club?

The drink offers at the Delta Sky Clubs were inspired by the exotic destinations Delta flies, as well as the Season.

Q: What do you think will be a Club favorite and why?

With the variety of options, it is hard to choose one.  All of the cocktails designed for the Delta Sky Clubs are sure to be favorites!

Q: Customers want to know—will the Clubs still offer complimentary wines and spirits?

I know that many of you are questioning what these additional options mean for the current complimentary alcohol program, and I’m happy to tell you that it isn’t changing. Period. You will still have the complimentary alcohol options you’ve had in the past, free of charge, at all Delta Sky Clubs. The premium spirits program offers additional options for customers looking for premium alcohol during their Club experience.

Q: What else should customers know when picking out the right drink for them?

All of the cocktails and spirits offered at the Delta Sky Club are made with a luxurious portfolio of spirits including: Tequila Don Julio, Johnnie Walker, Ketel One Vodka, Bulleit Bourbon and always fresh seasonal ingredients. Customers should be adventurous when choosing their beverage and step out of their cocktail comfort zone. Travel, whether for work or pleasure, is always a bit adventurous so your choice of beverage should be as well.

Elayne Duke

Head Mixologist, Diageo Wine and Spirits

Elayne Duke has been the head mixologist for Diageo Wine and Spirits for the past five years, creating cocktails for some of New York’s finest restaurants, including Le Bernardin, Central Park Boathouse and Villa Pacri.

She studied mixology as a student of the Beverage Alcohol Resource, America’s premiere course on spirits and cocktails, where she honed her technique under world-renowned mixology experts Paul Pacult, David Wondrich, Steve Olson, Doug Frost and Dale Degroff.

In 2009, Elayne was honored by the James Beard Foundation as one of the most prominent female mixologists in the country.

Delta Sky Clubs in Atlanta Reach New Heights

With the new Delta Sky Club on Concourse D near Gate D27 opening, today’s ribbon-cutting ceremony (check out the photo of us cutting the ribbon!) marks the first time that Delta Air Lines has a Sky Club on every concourse at Delta’s Atlanta Worldport. Now passengers whose flights depart from Concourse D have a quiet haven to escape from the hectic activity in the concourse, which is located on the ramp level (a unique aspect of this particular Sky Club).

This grand opening follows the recent grand re-opening of the newly-renovated Delta Sky Club on Concourse A across from Gate A17. With more than 55,000 visits each month, this Sky Club – currently one of nine in Atlanta – is the busiest lounge in the Delta Sky Club system.

In no way does the modern design of the new Clubs resemble its humble beginnings as the original Crown Room Club when it first opened more than 31 years ago. Rather, the first thing immediately apparent is its open look and feel.

The bright and colorfully renovated Sky Clubs – decorated with sleek lighting fixtures and aerial photography – provide an inviting and comfortable oasis for travelers before, between or after their flights. Plus plenty of electrical outlets throughout both Sky Clubs ensure that power is available to more members.

With the new openings and updates to the Clubs, members and guests now have an even broader variety and choice of locations to grab a quick refreshment and snacks, catch up on business, or take advantage of the complimentary WiFi available in all of the Delta Sky Clubs.

Also be on the look out for the newest Delta Sky Club to open at the end of the month in Seattle near gate S9. This wonderful new Roof Top Club includes views of Mt. Rainier. Additionally, a new Sky Club will debut next year when Atlanta opens the new Maynard Jackson International terminal, also to be known as Terminal F.

We look forward to seeing you in a Delta Sky Club soon. Happy travels!

Delta Sky Zone: An Improved Travel Experience for Your Kids

Hello parents of some of our youngest customers! As the busy summer travel season gets underway, we have some great news for those of you sending your kids through our unaccompanied minor program. Now, when your kids connect through Atlanta they’ll enjoy our new Delta Sky Zones on Concourses B, C and E!

So what can you tell your kids to expect? We gave each room a complete makeover with your kid’s perspective in mind. The clubs feature new furniture, tile, carpet, X-Box 360 video games with individual play stations, plus educational materials and more. The Zones accommodate children as young as 8, (while the average age of unaccompanied minors traveling on Delta ranges between 11 and 14), so we worked to ensure every age group is entertained!

If your kids aren’t traveling through Atlanta this summer, don’t worry. We’re planning future Sky Zone development in some of our other hubs next year.

We know how important it is for your kids to travel safely, so we’re looking forward to hearing what you and your kids think of their new digs.

Great News for Delta Sky Clubs This Month!

This week is very exciting for our customers who visit Minneapolis–St Paul and for those of us who work with the Delta Sky Clubs! We celebrated the much anticipated opening of our renovated Delta Sky Club in MSP and that’s just the beginning. We’ve been hard at work and this month, we’ll be unveiling three more remodeled Sky Clubs in Atlanta, New York – LaGuardia (Phase 1) and a new club in Philadelphia. The refurbishments are part of Delta’s more than $2 billion investment in its product through 2013!

We hope that you have noticed that the changes. Here’s what the new clubs have:

  • All new contemporary furnishings in addition to our standard bars with free beverages and snacks all day
  • New art featuring aerial photography of the region, updated restrooms, satellite TV and a work zone that comes with free Wi-Fi
  • Cyber bars for you to plug in a recharge, desktop computers, wireless printers and additional charging options

We’ve incorporated a lot of the feedback we’ve received directly from our customers (such as more power) and made sure we kept some of your favorite elements like the complimentary alcohol, fresh, healthy snacks all day and of course the “real” cheese.

Last year we renovated Sky Clubs in Los Angeles and Atlanta, opened a new club in Indianapolis and made improvements (like new carpet, new upholstery, upgraded serviceware, etc.) to all other clubs. In addition to the four clubs we plan to open this month, later this year we’re also building new clubs in Seattle and in Atlanta on Concourse D and will finish the renovation of the clubs in New York-LaGuardia and Atlanta near Gate A-17.

We hope that you’re enjoying the clubs and find them the best place in the airport for comfort, convenience and cocktails!

Not a member of the Delta Sky Clubs? Find out what all the buzz is about for only $50. Stop by the club to purchase a one day pass or better yet an annual membership!

We look forward to welcoming you soon.
