Say Hello To Mobile Baggage Tracking

Whether it’s a flight across the country or across the pond, we know how important it is that your bags travel where you do. You may remember in April when we announced lots of improvements to help you with checked baggage, which is why today we’re excited to tell you about another one!

Now when you download the latest update to the Delta app, you’ll be able to track your checked bag – just like you track a package.

YouTube Preview Image

So how does it work? Just enter the number on your bag tag receipt – or iPhone® users can scan the barcode – and watch your bag’s journey from departure to arrival and all points in between. Plus you’ll even know which carousel they arrive on!

Ever been sitting on the plane and wondering whether your bags are too? With the new app feature you can even track your bags while in flight. That’s right – Gogo® Inflight Internet gives you free access to delta.com or the Delta app.

Plus enjoy other new features when you download the updated app, like the ability to pay for your bags during mobile check-in, accessing airport maps and aircraft information and viewing a complete list of Delta Sky Club® locations so you’re never left wondering where to go.

The latest update for the Fly Delta app is now available for iPhone®, Android™ and Windows® Phone users and is coming to Blackberry® in early 2012. So go ahead, download it for free. It’s just one more way you can “take off” with an easier, more convenient travel experience!

P.S. did we mention we’re the only U.S. airline gives you the tools to track your bags anytime, even while in flight? So be sure to try it out and tell us what you think!

More Economy Comfort Means More Room to Relax!

Update: You can now purchase Economy Comfort on transcon flights! Check out delta.com for the specific offerings and to book your next flight.
———

Last summer we introduced Economy Comfort on our international flights and it’s proven to be a huge hit with all of you! Since then we’ve received a ton of feedback and many of you have asked us ‘when will you make this available on the rest of your flights?’ Well today we’re happy to share that beginning in late spring for travel next summer, you can select Economy Comfort on more than 800 additional planes!

The product will be offered on domestic and short-haul international flights onboard all of our domestic 767, 757, 737, MD88, MD90, A320, A319, DC9 and all two-class regional jets including the CRJ900, CRJ700, E170 and E175 aircraft.  Here’s what the seats will offer:

  • 34+ inches of pitch. This means even more legroom!
  • Priority Boarding. Now you can have just a little extra time to stow your carry-on and relax as you travel to your destination.

So how does it work? Once you have your Economy ticket purchased, you can choose an Economy Comfort seat via delta.com, our self-service kiosks or Delta reservations for an additional fee of $19-$99 one-way including Alaska, Hawaii, and short-haul international flights. Or, if you purchased a full-fare Economy class ticket, you’ll get complimentary access to the new seats.

Just like our long-haul international Economy Comfort option, if you’re a SkyMiles Medallion member you’ll receive added benefits. Here’s the breakdown:

  • Diamond/Platinum/Gold: Complimentary access at time of booking
  • Silver Medallion: 50% discount at the time of purchase or free access at check-in

We hope you like the expanded Economy Comfort product and we’d love to hear your thoughts. What flight are you booking next summer that might include an itinerary with an EC seat?

Delta’s 767-300ER Fleet Getting a New Look

I wanted to share some very exciting news from the Customer Experience team highlighting our ongoing interior projects. This update covers the 767-300ER New Interior Program, which I’m betting will elicit a lot of excitement from our customers and crews when the first aircraft enters service today!

And since a picture is worth a thousand words, take a look at the pics below, which illustrate just how dramatic this “extreme makeover” really is. The new interior mirrors the product we provide on our 767-400ER fleet.

The prototype 767-300ER (ship 1608) arrived in Atlanta last night and is undergoing final inspections before returning to service on the Atlanta-Manchester, UK flight later in the evening. The aircraft will also be flying from our JFK hub with rotations to Accra,, Berlin, Brussels, Budapest, Dublin, Moscow, Pisa, Venice and Zurich. You can also expect to see the aircraft flow through Seattle with flights to Beijing and Osaka in the future.

The second 767-300ER is scheduled to begin its modification this weekend and the third is scheduled to begin on Aug. 15. A total of (7) 767-300ERs with new interiors, flat-bed seats and full cabin AVOD are scheduled to be in service by the end of this year, bringing the total number of flat bed-equipped aircraft to 46.

For those of you who want the ‘detailed’ details (you all know who you are)…here’s an overview of the new interior product:

Economy

  • 143 seats at 31-32” pitch in 2 x 3 x 2 layout
  • “Slim-line” seats providing more personal space
  • Adjustable headrests
  • USB power

In-Flight Entertainment

  • Personal On Demand Entertainment
  • 10.6”screens in BusinessElite (50% larger than previous screens); 7” in Economy

Cabin Enhancements

  • New LED lighting
  • New lavatories
  • New high-capacity overhead bins
  • New galleys

And as always, I’d like to extend a special thanks to the men and women of TechOps for all their hard work on this project.

Update: Wi-Fi and Flat-Bed Seats

Hello and happy Tuesday to you all! I wanted to provide a quick update on Delta’s ongoing Wi-Fi installations and the status of our flat-bed seat upgrades; two subjects have proven to be very popular with readers of this blog.

Wi-Fi

Delta currently operates 569 Wi-Fi-equipped aircraft. The latest installations include:

767-300

Two domestic 767s (Ships 121 and 124) returned to the fleet from storage and Wi-Fi was installed during their return-to-service visits. The total fleet count is now 16 aircraft (who doesn’t love a widebody on a domestic route!).

MD90

Ship 9224 was added to the fleet May 16. The total MD90 fleet count is now 24.

A319 VIP

Wi-Fi installations are being performed in MSP as part of the transition to a mainline configuration. For most of the year these eight planes are used exclusively for our NBA charters in a VIP configuration. We’ve completed 7 of 8 planes with the last of the A319s scheduled for installation by the end of June.

CRJ700/900

The prototype installation for the CRJ program will be an ASA CRJ700 and is projected to return to service on June 15*. (This will be the first regional jet in the world to be equipped with Wi-Fi!)

Flat-Bed Seats

As of June 30, Delta will operate 40 planes with 180 degree fully flat seats in BusinessElite.

767-300ER (1 of 58 in work) — Ship 1608

767-400ER Fleet Complete (21 of 21)

777-200ER (7 of 8 complete) — Ships 7001-7004, 7006-7008

777-200LR Fleet Complete (10 of 10)

I hope you’re having a great week and keep the questions and comments coming!
