Tribeca Film Festival Shows our NYC Support

The 2008 Tribeca Film Festival recently wrapped up in New York City, and Delta Air Lines had a starring role!

As the official airline for the Festival again this year, I’m proud to say that this is just one of many sponsorship platforms that Delta uses to demonstrate positive change in the communities we serve; and, New York is certainly no exception. As many New Yorkers know, The Tribeca Film Festival was founded by actor Robert De Niro and others following the attacks on the World Trade Center in 2001 to spur the economic and cultural revitalization of lower Manhattan with an annual celebration of film, music, and culture. For those outside of the New York City area, TriBeCa is a neighborhood in lower Manhattan. The name is an acronym for Triangle Below Canal Street.

It was indeed a privilege for me to represent Delta Air Lines, as I presented the best actor and actress awards during the Filmmaker Awards ceremony last Thursday evening. Over the weekend, we participated in the Tribeca-associated Delta Family Festival Street Fair on Greenwich Street. Great times were had by all! As you can see, a few of us even met the original cast of the movie ‘Gotta Dance.’ It just so happened that we chose their movie at a private screening for our premium customers on Saturday afternoon and then we bumped into them walking down the street right after!

The 2008 festival ran from April 23rd through May 4th, and included 121 feature films and 79 short films representing 41 different countries. Among them were 53 world premieres, 6 international premieres, and 30 North American premieres.

At Delta Air Lines, our passion for New York is stronger than ever. Supporting the community through our significant role in the 2008 Tribeca Film Festival is just one of the many ways that we demonstrate our dedication and commitment to this great city.

Thank you for your support of Delta Air Lines. We appreciate your business.

I LOVE CARGO!

OK, I must be a geek, but I don’t care. What I love about my job in the Delta Cargo department is that I feel connected to commerce and what is happening. I see vegetables from Europe in the summer, Latin America in the winter. I get close to tigers for film shoots and move the camera equipment for the networks and the Olympics. We even move eyes for transplant and radioactive medicines for chemotherapy!

I have visited Delta destinations when we first start service and worked with our new friends/partners in business. I could see that they were eager to do business with Delta and with the United States. A new market is opening! Excitement in their eyes.

Cargo is not at all like working with passengers. Boxes/crates just sit there. They need us to get them moving. We need to communicate with each other to keep the process moving. We talk to each other and send e-mails all around the world: Bombay, Tel Aviv, Budapest, Brazil, Toronto, and Guatemala all before breakfast. (Okay, I eat late).

The other day I attended the funeral of a close friend. As I was sitting there thinking about our loss, I noticed the beautiful flower displays in his honor… I started to smile. Perhaps, I had a hand in getting those very flowers in those arrangements from far away places to those florists so the arrangements could brighten the occasion.

That’s why I love cargo!

If your time is money, we may have the solution in NYC

When I talk to Delta’s frequent business customers in New York, many of them tell me the the most precious thing they have is their time - and, that there are never enough hours in the day or week to get everything done before the next one begins.

Our business customers also tell me that when they travel, they’re looking for opportunities that allow them to move quickly through the pre-flight or post-flight travel experience; they tell me that whenever possible, they seek ways to attempt to eliminate hassles and avoid lines. In short, they’re looking to maximize their precious time by increasing productivity and efficiency.

If this sounds like you, I’m delighted to tell you about Delta’s new codeshare relationship with US Helicopter in New York. Imagine traveling Manhattan to JFK in just 8 minutes. Our customers traveling to or from New York City have more convenient ways to book time-saving US Helicopter service between downtown Manhattan or 34th Street and John F. Kennedy International Airport. Through a new codeshare agreement, travel agents can now book Delta customers on US Helicopter via the major reservations systems, and customers can book directly at delta.com. SkyMiles members earn 500 miles for each booking.

While the speediness of the actual ride is worth talking about, using US Helicopter in conjunction with your Delta flight offers much more than that:

  • Approximate eight-minute travel time between New York City Heliports in midtown and downtown Manhattan and JFK’s Gate 11 in Terminal 3
  • When headed to JFK, you go through federally regulated TSA security clearance at either NYC Heliport before arriving at JFK; because you land inside the secure area of JFK, you don’t go through TSA security screening again at JFK
  • You receive convenient check-in and boarding passes to final destinations for both domestic and international travel departing from and arriving in Manhattan — one check-in experience
  • You check your baggage to your final destination whether traveling to or from Manhattan
  • It’s easy! You experience convenient and efficient booking through Delta for your entire itinerary

This is truly a case of “you have to experience it to believe it.” As a New York resident myself, I recently booked the helicopter from JFK to the 34th Street Heliport after returning from a business trip to our headquarters in Atlanta. It’s hard to describe the efficiency and convenience you feel as you look down at the traffic below on the ground, while Manhattan’s skyscrapers quickly grow closer. On this particular trip, I boarded the helicopter at JFK at 7:15 PM and was in my NYC apartment at 7:40 PM. No kidding!

I can tell you that Delta is committed to giving our New York City customers convenient access to the world right from our JFK hub, and we’re always looking for ways to respect their busy schedules. US Helicopter is a great choice for you, our globe-trotting customer, as it reduces your travel time and expedites the check-in process especially for international flights.

US Helicopter trips can be purchased as you book your air travel on Delta. However, US Helicopter transportation is complimentary with the purchase of an applicable Delta international BusinessElite® ticket to and from Africa, Brazil, Europe, India, and Israel and is valid for travel through Dec. 31, 2008.

If time, efficiency, and convenience are important to you — like they are for me — this new Delta/US Helicopter codeshare relationship just might be an answer. Try it on your next trip between JFK and Manhattan. I think you’ll be delighted. Complete details can be found here. I have also included the schedule below.

Thank you for your support of Delta Air Lines. We appreciate your business.

One Stop for Nonstop New York Flights

Everyone loves New York. I just got to visit twice in the last two weeks, and I fall in love with that city more each time. And Delta is no different. Delta [hearts] NYC too.

With so much new service through JFK and LGA airports these days, we decided to build a page on delta.com just for all things out of New York. Check out all New York flights – current airfare deals out of LGA and JFK and last minute weekend deals on the page. Or subscribe to our RSS feed on the page, and get airfare deals delivered straight to your favorite page.

You’ll also find top, nonstop destinations out of New York, airport maps, special NY events, premium check-in benefits, and our favorite lounge Crown Room Club locations.

My big question – to make this a great & useful page for all you New Yorkers – what’s the best or most useful part of the page for you now? What would you want to see on the page? Let us know.
