First and foremost we want to share our deepest thoughts and prayers with everyone whose lives have been impacted as a result of today’s earthquake and tsunami in Japan. As you can imagine, this has been a major event for us given our 1,200 employees in Japan and the thousands of customers who count on us to travel to, from and through Tokyo every day. We know there are a lot of questions and concerns about how this event may affect you and your loved ones, and we’ll work to address some of your concerns here.
Our first priority is ensuring our customers and employees in Japan are safe. As soon as the earthquake hit, our operations team immediately went to work ensuring that all our aircraft were safe. While in many cases this meant diverting, delaying or cancelling from our original schedule, we are fortunate that no employees or customers were injured at any of our facilities or on any of our flights in Japan.
Our reservations experts are also reaching out to customers to notify them of the impact this has on their travel plans. I have tickets for Tokyo on April 1, but conditions there are getting worse now that power and water are going to be shut down for several hours every day. The fear of radioactive contamination is another concern until more accurate information is available. Can I cancel my reservations and make new ones for a month or two later without penalty?

This is a real nice/great way to ensure the Delta employees affected by the recent quake & tsunami in Japan do not feel neglected. My dear friend took the time to reply to my email that he & his family/colleagues are alright. Is there a way for those who want to assist, with hands-on relief efforts in Japan?

Why is Delta sending flights over to Tokyo and the areas that are dangerous to human lives right now. The headlines everywhere is that it is unsfafe and nuclear reactors are blowing up.

Wonderful to see the number of companies around the globe that are coming to the aid of Japan in their time of need. Maybe it is time to consider stepping up your game in AT&T fashion and offering empty seats to the evacuation of military dependents trying to leave thus reducing the burden on limited resources in the country.

I so appreciate what you’re doing as a corporation in light of this latest tragic event and series of episodes; however, there is more that you can do (or so I feel). I made an attempt to transfer the few miles that I have to family members that are in Japan and trying to get out and return Stateside, however your system is attempting to charge me to do so.
I understand this as policy, but in light of what’s going on there now, why can’t Delta waive any fees regarding the transferring of miles? Do more Delta, I beg you, you just might save a life or countless lives in doing so….

The US State Department wants all American citizens to leave Japan, if possible, and for those traveling there not to go if their purpose is nonessential. Food supplies are running short, power is lacking, radioactivity is threatening everyone, yet Delta still has not moved its date you can return your tickets to Japan for a complete refund without a cancellation fee beyond March 31. Since my ticket is for April 1, I may have to pay a substantial penalty for cancelling my ticket. This is not responsible corporate behavior and Delta should be ashamed of itself for its inflexible position. The company had better wake up and change its outside date very soon, or they are going to have a hell of a lot of disgusted customers.

We have tickets for Tokyo on April 5. Although it is about three weeks after the earthquake in Japan, but conditions there are getting worse i.e. power is shut down for several hours every day (all theme parks are shut down until further notice), food and water are not safe for intake due to fear of radioactive contamination and the spread of radioactive all over the place/air/sea is another concern. We believe the situation could not be fully recovered within this year. Can I cancel my reservations without penalty? Most airlines have already extended there period of cancellation without penalty till 30 Apr 11. It would be very kind of you to consider that too.

Pls urgently reply to my comment. If you think you really care for customer welfare you should agree to allow for cancellation of ticket to tokyo-narita without penalty because plutonium from radioactive that found in the soil in Japan yesterday last more than 100 years therefore to change the flight to Jul 11 is not our choice. Cancellation fee for several tickets mean a sum of money for us.
