We’ve heard an overwhelming amount of concern for Paco, a Dachshund/Jack Russell Terrier mix that escaped from his kennel while traveling through the Mexico City airport. We have been working over the past few days to gather all of the details. Our employees conducted exhaustive searches of both the airport and the surrounding areas to locate the dog and they are continuing the search of the surrounding area. Know that we’ve also been involved in ongoing conversations with Paco’s owner to keep him informed.
We understand that pets are an important part of the family and regret the circumstances of this unfortunate situation. We take pet travel very seriously and do everything possible to ensure that all animals travel safely and securely. In fact, in 2009 Delta safely transported over 70,000 animals. We ask that you help us maintain the safety of all pets by ensuring that all passengers traveling with animals review and follow the pet travel guidelines, which are designed to prevent these extremely rare instances.
We thank you for your outpouring and share in your concern.

Why not publicly release the security camera footage of Paco’s alleged escape? That way we can all learn about how that happened, so we can learn from whatever mistake occurred.
After all, the owner claimed that the cage was strong enough, approved by the initial airport, and was securely locked. It sounded like they took all precautions the rest of us would have taken. But if he still escaped, then something had to have happened that we wouldn’t expect.
So please show the footage publicly, or at least give details, so we can all learn what to be careful of when traveling with our pets.
