When I was named editor-in-chief of Sky last December, the list of to-dos from Delta was pretty short, including one big ask: June needs to be a New York City issue. Having come off of a city magazine prior to joining Sky, I knew it would be a no-brainer to create an issue all about New York. (Bonus: Our global lifestyle editor, Jason Oliver Nixon, lives in Brooklyn.)
I knew that first we needed a cover. But who? Sure, there are the classics: Letterman, De Niro, Scorsese. Buzz-worthy women: Tina Fey, Sarah Jessica Parker. High-profile media types: Matt Lauer, Katie Couric, Anderson Cooper.
But we wanted someone fresh. Someone who has something new. Someone people are talking about.
The result: Jimmy Fallon of Late Night with Jimmy Fallon anchors our My New York feature, which includes 14 noted New Yorkers (Isaac Mizrahi, Soledad O’Brien, Donald Trump, Donna Karan, Mary Louis Parker, Wynton Marsalis, Edie Falco, Derek Jeter and more).
We interviewed Jimmy during his first week on the air and was backstage during Late Night’s first Friday night show. If you’re not flying this month, read the digital magazine here.
What do you think of our New York issue?

I just noticed the redesign and I think you’ve done a great job.
There is a lot of good content packed in this issue, but believe you have cross-identified the CN Tower in Toronto and the Sydney Tower in Australia.
but really, a great job.

Too much New York! Contrary to what many think, New York is not the only important city in the world! I think you should concentrate more on places that Delta flys that don’t get that much attention. Alaska, Midwest cities, Europe, South America and such. Give us something to read that lets us learn about other places!

The little get-a-ways that are featured are nice - but only if you can afford $1000 a day for all your activities. Get real, the average person who flys on Delta does not have that kinda of money. May be the person who can afford to buy a FC ticket but not the rest of us. Please start publishing get-a-ways for the average traveler, you know the bread and butter folks that fill up the back of the plane.
