Anyone remember the online booking bonus at delta.com?
In the 1990’s the novelty of buying a plane ticket online made some folks a little nervous, so we gave customers bonus miles for booking online at delta.com.
But by 2007, customers like you discovered that in addition to finding Delta’s lowest fares they could rest assured that there weren’t any online travel agency booking fees, that they had access to the full range of advance seat assignments, could check in online, manage their SkyMiles, rent cars, get destination info, and lots more. People no longer needed the additional incentive to book directly at delta.com
Starting today for a limited time, we’re bringing back our online booking bonus. As a thanks to you, our loyal delta.com users, you will now earn up to 500 bonus miles on all flights you book at delta.com between April 28 and May 31, 2009. It’s our way of not only thanking you for your loyalty, but also to encourage other customers to save time and money by going to the only site that guarantees you’ll get Delta’s lowest fares online: delta.com.
Please pass this along to your friends too… Summer is fast approaching and Delta’s the only U.S. airline flying with you to six continents.
Are there any other favorite ‘retro’ promotions or programs you’d like to see return?
Thanks for your loyalty!

I think it is the other way today because once Delta started to outsource call facilities…people did not want to deal with the accents and hard to understand agents and just booked online. I am glad to see it back!

For a retro promotion, I’ll admit that I’d love to see Dash to the Gate from December 2004 return - I can’t think of a promo that ever rivaled that one.
Though great news to see the online booking bonus back!

I remember the 500 mile bonus from a few years ago. It was my first flight on Delta again since 2004. Flew LGA-DCA-LGA on the Shuttle (first time on a MDD aircraft since 98! Boy did I miss it!). Great service!
What was Dash to the Gate?

The Dash to the Gate I think was the promo where they gave you 10,000 miles just for answering 10 questions that were so easy.
I like the Birthday Gift promo, double miles for any trip you book during your birthday month. However it’s been 2 months since my birthday and my trip and I haven’t been credited.

You’re missing something: we should get the bonus miles for booking on delta.com OR nwa.com. The current promo is for Skymiles members booking on delta.com or WorldPerks members booking on nwa.com. It should be bonus miles for either site! (NWA’s website booking engine works better…you usually get different results on each site, so I sometimes have to use one of them specifically.)

What is better for Delta, giving the 500 mile bonus or paying fees charged by on line booking sites? The 500 miles bonus has often been the decision point between booking with an agency and booking with Delta.
