Delta people love their planes! Here flight attendant Diane Strickland hugs the propeller of a Convair 440–the last of Delta’s prop planes–as it retires from passenger service on April 25, 1970.
Delta’s passenger fleet was now all jet.

They sure don’t make them like they use to. Ohh yeah and the plane is cool too.

What routes were the last to see prop service in 1970? Is it known what route this Convair was flying April 25? Thanks!

Marie,
About a year or so before this on March 3, 1968, I actually purchased a ticket from Dallas to Ft. Worth’s old Greater Southwest Airport and flew Convair N4819C on the short 10 minute trip. My parents dropped me off at Love and we waiting for me at GSW.

Sorry to be so late in reply, just realized I never replied back to the question about the last CV-440 route. Didn’t find the last route mentioned in articles and photo caption that the AP News sent out, so not sure. The focus was all on Delta’s turning 100% passenger jets. If anyone knows, I’d love to hear.

I’ll bet you an RC Cola and a moon-pie that Ms. Strickland knows the route of the last CV-440 service!
