I know many of you out there travel frequently, so you know that everyone has those things that you can’t leave home without, especially around the holidays. It’s like in your normal day-to-day when you make sure that you check your pockets for your wallet, your keys and your cell phone. I do that check before each flight.
These are the things that I can’t fly without:
1. iPhone: Perhaps one of the greatest inventions of all time, the iPhone simply makes life easier. I use the e-mail, the internet, the GPS (which is more accurate than any GPS in my cars), I text with it, I have all my songs on it, photos, videos and so much more. It is easily the device that I am the most dependent on. In fact, I’m writing my blog right now from my iPhone!
2. Bose Headphones: I have those sound neutralizing headphones that are unbelievable. They were given to me as a gift and at first I didn’t think they were any different than normal headphones. But they literally suction over your ears so that you hear nothing but the music playing. On long flights, they’re especially important.
3. Neck pillow: Yep, I’m that dork who walks through the airport with one of those neck pillows. My wife laughs at me and makes fun of me for it but it’s amazing. I used to be too embarrassed by it and had one of those ones that you blew up once you got on the plane. But after trying the one that has those little comfortable beads in it, I’m sold.
4. Magazines: I need to keep myself entertained when I’m on the plane so I pick up the standard guy magazines: Sports Illustrated and ESPN. I’m a huge fan of all sports and I like to read up as much as possible. I also pick up a newspaper and, I’m not going to lie, read my wife’s US Weekly and People when she’s done.
5. Gum: I was never one of those people that had issues with my ears getting plugged up or popping on planes. However, I’ve always chewed gum on planes and, whether true or not, think that that might be the reason why I’ve never had issues. Because of that, I never fly without gum!
What are some things that you can’t travel without? Let me know and I’ll tell you what I think!
Carson
Carson Palmer is the Quarterback of the Cincinnati Bengals and a frequent Delta flier.

hhmm i cant travel without my iPod touch, my Mac, DVDs, my camera for pictures and videos looking out of the plane(I love planes and traveling), gum, and I think thats it, I normally get bored during the flight and get a little restless, but I make it through cuz I love flying!

Dude no playboy? Although I hated flying AirBerlin to Germany I thought the playboy they gave me onboard was pretty cool.
Also if you want some good headphones, bose are nice but you’re paying for the name. Try out Able Planets theirs are just as good if not better for a lot cheaper. If you want wireless noise cancelation then HP has some nice bluetooth headphones that offer noise cancellation.
No Laptop on your flights?

I used to chew gum on planes. As a matter of fact, I used to chew gum all the time. It was almost like smoking – literally a pack a day! I’ve happily been gum-free, however, for over a year now (even when flying).
I don’t think I really need anything; a sweater or hoodie will suffice just for flying. Since I got my laptop last year, I take it everywhere, so I would want that (and the charger, I guess; the battery is amazing: working an entire HNL-IAH leg left me with 20% afterward). I used to be fine with airline headphones, but now I have a really nice pair. I got a 2-to-1-prong adapter (you plug a single-prong headset into it, and you can plug the double-pronged adapter end into the seat) back when Delta still had those, so that’s great to have.
A camera is a great thing to have too. As for reading material, a book or Sky Mag works for me.

I too travel with a camera, and something to keep warm. The only thing not mentioned: snacks, sudoku and a pen.

I’m going to say a camera like everyone else!
Also, it may sound silly, but I can’t go without a Hershey’s with almonds chocolate bar.

In any case for me, my MP3 player is a must. It’s small, fits in my pocket & keeps me entertained. I’ll also toss in a book or magazine & if I’m taking it on the given trip, my laptop with a couple DVDs tossed in. I also give myself something to snack on if it’s a longer flight. I can do without something on a short flight, but a bag of chips or crackers ends up in my bag if I’m going to be on the plane for a few hours.
I also check the airline’s website to see what kind of entertainment may be offered on the flights I’m taking. Having flown Delta so much over the years, I’ve got memorized that the 777, 767, 757, 737 & MD-90s have some form of entertainment offered, be it the overhead screens or the in-seat screens, so that helps me plan.
And I’m getting spoiled with Delta On Demand…I flew CVG-MCO (Cincy-Orlando) a couple weeks ago on a 737-800 & loved every minute of playing around with that system. I’m a Columbus Blue Jackets fan & was able to keep track of the score of their game that night by watching ESPNNews during the flight. I find myself trying to plan trips around (hopefully) getting flights with it offered.

Your gum chewing would drive me crazy. I’d add my Amazon Kindle that I couldn’t travel without. I agree with the Boise headphones, an Ipod and a few magazines.
