In the holiday spirit, I’d like to share one of the earliest ads in the Delta Archives specifically about holiday travel.
This December 1939 ad encourages travelers to fly home from Atlanta, on Delta’s 10-passenger Lockheed 10 Electras, to save time and money. Another bonus the ad mentions–in these still early, pre-World War II days of air travel–was that you could also “fly away from the crowds” of the roads and railways!
By the way, this is the earliest ad we have found that depicts a child traveling on Delta.
Happy Holidays to you!

Wow, that’s pretty cool. I love travel ephemera like this. Thanks for posting it, Marie! Are any of the Delta archives online for us all to view?

Wow! Look at all that legroom! The woman can cross her legs and the kid is far enough away from the other seat that she can’t kick the back of it!
What went wrong?

John: Delta’s archival digital image collection is maintained on an internal website, but to see more travel ephemera in the Delta Blog, click on “History” under the Categories listed on the right side of the screen. I love this stuff, too! Enjoy! Marie
