Throughout the month of October, Delta’s pink 757, tail number N610DL, will make several appearances at local airshows. This past weekend, ship 610 wooed crowds at the Great Georgia Airshow in Peachtree City, Georgia.
Delta’s pink Boeing 757 was first introduced in October 2006 to raise awareness for the cause and for its partner, The Breast Cancer Research Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to funding innovative clinical and genetic research to find ways to prevent and cure breast cancer. Instead of Delta’s traditional livery, this aircraft wears a special livery in multiple shades of pink, featuring the Foundation’s trademark pink ribbon logo, adjacent to the boarding door, as a visible reminder to passengers that they are flying on this special aircraft. To see what the plane has been up to since then, check out this video.
The next scheduled appearance for Delta’s pink Boeing 757 will be this coming weekend, October 18 and 19, on static display at the Wings Over Marietta Open House & Airshow in Marietta, Georgia just north of Atlanta.

Chris - Can you give us some history about Ship 610. In particular, why did DL choose this Ship as “Breast Cancer One”? I’m thinking it has to do with the timing when a 757 was due for a paint livery change and it just so happened that 610 was over due for the new livery. Am I on track?

TriStar_Fan - Ship 610, otherwise known as N610DL, made her first flight on October 6, 1985. She flew for mainline Delta until mid-2005 when she was transferred to the Song operation. Incidentally, N610DL never flew in the green Song livery, and was immediately painted in pink colors when it joined the Song fleet. When ship 610 rejoined the mainline fleet in 2006, it was again repainted into a revised pink livery, the one it wears today. Hope that answers your question!

Is there a commemorative plaque on display inside the cabin regarding Delta’s focus and cause in helping to find a cure for breast cancer?

Ship #610 visited the most “Northwest” point (except seasonal FAI) on the domestic Delta system yesterday afternoon, arriving in Anchorage from SLC. Coincidentally, it was a gloriously sunny afternoon, albeit a bit brisk!
