From the Delta Image Archives, here’s a photo of Suzanne, the first baby born on a Delta flight (in 1959). Mrs. Hugh Ector, with the assistance of a flight attendant, gave birth to the 8 lb., 4 oz. girl, while in mid-flight over Malden, Missouri, at 9,000 feet. Flight attendant uniform wings were used as diaper pins.
Mother and baby are shown with Delta personnel about to board their flight home. You can also see gifts from Delta: an orchid corsage, miniature flight bag and a flight attendant hat.
