Hello everyone!
Just a quick note to thank everyone for the overwhelmingly positive reaction to Delta’s new safety video.
No one could have anticipated the reaction or the level of interest from our customers and the media. After hitting our blog, YouTube, and FlyerTalk, the Associated Press picked up the story of “Deltalina” and the buzz began. The amount of viewers worldwide has more than doubled since our last update, now with over 800,000 views! This version is currently being rolled out to our fleet during April and May and will be completed by June 1st.
Filming took place in January at Delta’s World Headquarters in Atlanta. Our director and production company oversaw more than 100 people involved in the shoot, from extras to engineers, make-up teams to mechanics. And as I mentioned before, the participants in the video are real Delta employees. This saved our budget, and allowed us to feature our greatest assets - our people.
Here are a few behind the scenes images from the shoot. If you dig a little and look closely, you’ll find a sign on the wall at the hangar where we filmed. It reads, “PAINT DEPARTMENT, STAFFED BY PROUD DELTA EMPLOYEES.”
We couldn’t agree more.

What you should next remake is the safety cards, the drink cups, and lastly work with Coca-Cola and make Delta Airlines Coke cans
PS havent flown on the new jets in 7 months

Speaking of the paint department why are there 3-4 generations of Delta livery still flying around? Is it a heritage thing?

Austinflyer…we updated our safety cards with the new branding last fall.
Geoffrey…we currently have 3 liveries flying (5 if you count the 2 NWA liveries flying!).
The 3 are the Interim (1997), Colors in Motion (2000) and Upward & Onward (2007). All the Song planes have been repainted and our MTC team is now working on aircraft in the “Interim” livery.
Thanks,
Chris

I’m sure its a bit early in the merger to think about this…. However, have you considered painting a few heritage planes like US Airways did? I think it would be a really great way to recognize the history behind Delta (and now Northwest)

Chris, it’s a nicely-done video. I’m all for anything that makes passengers actually PAY ATTENTION TO THE SAFETY DEMO!
However, it contains something that’s been a pet peeve of mine over the last two incarnations of the Delta safety video. It’s out of print, but there’s a terrifically funny book called “Cabin Pressure” written in the 80s by two AA F/As. In it is a chapter giving a sassy look at the safety demo, and in it they point out that you have to wait until you get to the door before inflating a life vest, otherwise (and I paraphrase) “you’ll be like the Michelin man trying to get down the aisle”. This video is better than previous ones (that show a guy strapped into his BusinessElite seat trying to inflate his vest as the voiceover instructs him to do so “as you leave the aircraft”), but still gives the impression of doing this while at the seat or in the aisle. Can you move the guy to an open doorway while he pulls tabs and blows into tubes?
I’ll forgive you for the same guy’s tooth-sparkle-chime when he holds up the seat cushion if you’ll correct this!

I second Geoffrey’s idea–I’ve been toying with some ideas myself for MSFS.
At the very least, we’d have:
Western
Northeast
Chicago & Southern
and
North Central (we want Herman!)
Southern
Hughes Airwest/Bonanza
…without even getting into “retrojets” for Delta and Northwest Orient.

Austinflyer…we’ve actually already rebranded the safety cards and cups.
JamesK…We kept, “…As you leave the plane…” to keep the script simple. In the extremely unlikely event of a water landing, our highly trained crew members would prepare the cabin and communicate instructions for donning life vests and when to inflate them — as passengers leave the plane. We’ll definitely take your feedback into consideration for the next iteration of the safety video.
Geoffrey…I do like the idea of “Heritage” jets, but there is much to be said for a consistent livery and brand…something Delta hasn’t had since 1996.
However, on a personal note, I do think it would be cool to highlight all the airlines and people that came together to form what will be the largest airline in the world.
Thanks for your feedback!

is there any particular reason that you used a 757 for the video and not a 767, 737, or a 777?
