If seats are designed to recline (even if it is just a tiny bit), then passengers have the right to move them back. In my 20 years of globe trotting I have NEVER EVER had a passenger in front of me ask me if I would mind if they reclined. And, frankly, I personally also have NEVER EVER asked the person behind me.

This video does nothing to address the problem, and it does not offer any solutions either.

But it does highlight (as many of the other posters have already said) the issue of complete lack of personal space in Economy. On a recent flight from Manchester to Atlanta in economy I had to move five times so I could keep working on my computer! Again, not complaining about people reclining - it's everybody's right.

I doubt very much that Delta will be a front runner in changing their seating lay-out. After all Delta is just converting some long haul configs to fully reclining seat whereas more innovative airlines already offer private suites.

I will make one exception. I flew a Delta flight from Washington Reagan to Atlanta not long ago on an Embraer. I was very impressed with the space in economy. Mind you, this was not a Delta owned plane, but a Shuttle America plane...

Those Cathay Pacific economy seats address another problem with the way current coach seats recline: seatback video screens. On current seats when the person in front of you reclines the video screen moves. I think Cathay Pacific is really on to something here, hopefully Delta will adopt something like this so we can recline if we want without the passenger behind us getting bloody knees or their view of the seatback monitor being disrupted. (Now if Delta would just put video on the MD88...)

Great video! And unfortunately sooo true :( ...

"tvDAN" is absolutely right. Delta (and all other airlines as well) should introduce seats like Cathay Pacific uses in their new Economy Class [Link], which recline without using space from the row behind.

Honestly, if it makes everyone so mad when the person in front of them reclines, then WHY DO AIRLINE SEATS STILL RECLINE? It wasn't a problem when you had more than a half-inch of legroom, but with seat pitch getting ever-closer to zero, why even put this feature on the seats anymore?

What baffles me even more are the people who get mad when the person in front of them reclines, but don't hesitate to recline their own seats.
