Delta.com on your “crackberry!” How cool is that?
Just last night both my wife and I were flying into Atlanta from separate airports, and I was able to check the status of her flight while waiting for my flight. Oh, by the way I was also checking my SkyMiles balance and flight schedules for my next trip. You can even make changes to your trips. Actually you can use delta.com on most internet capable mobile devices, not just Blackberry’s.
How about some icing on the cake…”Hey, look ma, no paper!”
Well we are not there yet, but effective November 6, you will be able to check-in on your mobile device and simply scan the “bar code” that you save to your PDA or Smart phone at the kiosk and get your boarding pass.
Soon, very soon we hope, you will be able to show your bar code on your device to the TSA (along with your ID), and zip through security on your way to your gate. No kiosk needed.
In addition, booking will soon be available, but it will be limited to the schedules path for you road warriors.
More importantly, what delta.com applications would you like to see added to the mobile devices?

WOW! This is truly technology leadership among the airlines. As someone who is (begrudgingly) tethered to his BlackBerry, this move is smart and convenient.
Fingers crossed that the TSA will see the wisdom/benefit of allowing us to use a digital boarding pass. Not only will this help travelers, it will allow airlines keep their costs, and thus our fares, in check and also help the environment (less paper).
What Delta.com apps would I like to see on my BlackBerry? Stand-by and flight reaccomodation functionality. GPS-based proiximity of Crown Rooms, DL customer service centers, etc. I guess anything and everything related to the flight at hand. Oh, and maybe an app can be created that could let me know if my checked luggage made it, or didn’t — and if it is onboard, about how long until it will be delivered at the bag claim.

How about something like seatguru, where I can see the seat layouts on the planes that I’m on and the amenities onboard?

Hi Chuck,
These features sound great, thanks for the update. One quick suggestion regarding the regular Delta.com site. If you check at Northwest’s site they let you redeem partner award travel on their website. Are you planning on implementing something similar on Delta.com? I can see all available SkyTeam and other partners of theirs and the award availability. A similar feature for Delta.com would be great.

I would greatly appreciate the ability to download outlook calendar files for my scheduled flights with information such as the date, flight number, confirmation number etc.
Also, the ability to view the upgrade list would be a nice added benefit as well.

Need to be able to post itineraries in Outlook calendar as can do on continental website
November 6th, 2007 at 7:46 pm
When, OH when will we be able to access the internet while in flight?
November 7th, 2007 at 3:57 pm
To all, thank you for your input, and we’ll keep you posted with our progress with the TSA.
Great suggestions regarding additions to the site, many of which we are in the progress of evaluating, and others that we have not yet considered… back to those in a minute.
Posting your itins to Outlook, on the list, probably early December! Seat guru is a interesting suggestion, but we need to evaluate the “load” times since it is pretty graphic heavy…even our own seat maps present some load time issues.
Award redemption for CO/NW has already been implemented on delta.com, but unlikely to be added to mobile site do the lack of speed in the mobile space…i.e. displaying the calendar could be problematic (note: we did have to pull down CO, but it should be back up real soon).
Ok, back to the ones we haven’t thought of…GPS locators for Crown Rooms and Bags. We do need to make it easier to locate the Crown Rooms, as they are listed on the mobile site, as well as delta.com, but not easy to get to. I doubt if GPS is an option in the near term, but you never know. As far as baggage, we have a long way to go, to get it right. Although not part of delta.com, I do know that there is an all out effort on the part of Delta to address baggage delivery.

Cool suggestions everyone.
How about either an app or web-based app that shows GIDS information for your flight? You would login to the app and if your departure time is withing the hour, it displays GIDS info but specifically for you.
-> If you are on the upgrade list, what number you are on the list. If you’re cleared , it shows your new assigned seat.
-> If you are on the standby list, same as above
-> Weather and time at destination
-> Incoming plane (if applicable) location. (In case you’re in the crown room and want to know when the incoming plane is arriving)
-> Current assigned seat, (maybe w/seat map view).

I recently tried hitting this from my Iphone. I’m not sure if you chose to leave the full version for Safari on Iphone. is there a specific page we could goto if we wanted to force the mobile version such as delta.com/mobile?

Generate a way to see MQM’s on line at Delta.com. Those trying to qualify at year end need to see without having to bother the pro’s on the phone.
Allow us to enter ‘home’ airport and search in ascending order the cities and respective MQM’s.

I’d like to see recent gate announcements (Gate changes, delays, etc)
available online (Web site, blog, and/or IRC server), and perhaps even available as email, or text alerts.
the system Delta has in place for more general flight delay works pretty well; it w/b cool to add gate announcements.
Icing on the cake would be to echo the same announcements to the
overhead gate monitors, and/or some sort of stand-alone Delta web kiosk.
Even more far-fetched, might be summaries of cockpit announcements
for those of us picking up folks at the airport.

Despite the somewhat long load for the seatmaps, I would really like to have the ability to change seats oin the mobile app on my Windows Mobile 5 device. I used to be able to do it on my old Pocket PC, and I miss it terribly. I don’t always have access to my laptop or other workstations at my job sites and my phone is the only available option. I check for better seats (or sometimes, just a seat assignment) on a pretty regular basis, so this is a biggie for me!

I would REALLY love to see the upgrade and standby list.
Gate to gate directions. How to get from one gate to another for a connection.
Check in times by airport.
Est Boarding times along with Departure and Arrival Times.

A seat map showing available seats and a way to choose one. It doesn’t have to be graphical. It could be text based.

I was recently delayed arriving in Cincinnati and found not only my connecting flight status but several other folks’ flights on my crackberry. That was fun because I made a friend to share the long wait with for our next flights.
Is there any thought to making available where our luggage is? We get a barcode sticker, and we could type it in ourselves, but it sure would be nice to know where the luggage is when we are waiting over an hour in Seattle for the luggage to come out.

My sincerest apologies but I have been out of the country at a conference. And, as such, I have neglected this space.
Regarding the url for delta.com on a mobile device…it is in fact delta.com, the same as on a computer. That was by design…you might be able to get there from mobile.delta.com, but that is because we have a redirect on that url…so in essence a little bit unnecessary.
We are still working through some glitches regarding the iPhone, since, in theory it behaves more like a computer and less like a mobile device. This has been handed off to developers to work on.
I like the seat maps, crown rooms and weather suggestions and we are looking into that as well.
Regarding MQMS, you do see those when buying a ticket, but I think the issue is to determine what markets reward what amount of MQMs before purchase. I will need to look into that.

Delta is a technology leader among all airlines. I am professional software developer and can really appreciate delta.com. Best airline site I’ve ever seen.
Keep up good work. My Blackberry 8830 has mobile.delta.com bookmark.

A tool for locating Crown Rooms would be great.
I also like noleld’s suggestion for a text-based seat plan.

Good news…booking Delta flights on your PDA will be available as early as next week. We have run into a couple of items that we wanted to tweak before launch. This option will only be available to SkyMiles customers who have chosen to store their information in their profile, i.e. credit card number, etc. You will not be able to specify a specific seat in the mobile application, but will be assigned an aisle or window based on your stored preference. We are still working through some details with the TSA regarding mobile check-in, but hope to have those worked out very soon. I appreciate the input regarding the text-based seat plan. There is actually a way to locate Crown Rooms, although not easy. You can click on the city code when checking flight status…we need to make it easier.
