Enhancing the Entertainment Experience

I think anyone will agree that wherever you are, entertainment matters. Think about it…consider the number of movies you’ve seen, the countless hours of television you’ve watched, the thousands of songs you’ve downloaded and the video games you’ve played.

The world would be a seriously boring place without entertainment.

I’m not sure how many of you have had a chance to fly on one of our aircraft equipped with the “Delta on Demand” digital entertainment system, but if you have then you know what a huge difference it makes to have a ton of stuff to watch on your own personal screen. We’ve got satellite TV, movies, HBO, 2,500 MP3s and games — all on demand.

Here’s an inside view:

And for you frequent flyers who have had a chance to experience Delta on Demand on a regular basis, I want to acknowledge the technical challenges we’ve experienced with the system lately. I’ll talk more about that and what we’re doing to correct these issues in my next post. I’ll also fill you in on some of the enhancements we’re making to the system in the coming months.

And on that note, what kind of enhancements would YOU like to see? For instance, should we add music videos? Should we add more new Hollywood films or more independent titles?

I hope you’ll stay connected to Delta via this new blog. I certainly like discussing the airline industry and reading your comments, so you’ll be seeing many posts from me in the weeks and months to come.

What’s up @ JFK in a good way?!?

Hi - and welcome to my blog. Not sure what that means - but ok, here goes.

Have you been to JFK recently? If so you likely saw me or one of my team members. We’ve been @ JFK working to make the customer experience in the terminal better (notice I said better…)!

Has anyone by chance checked in at T2 in the Elite check in area? If so what did you think? If not - and you are a First Class, Medallion or Business Elite Customer, I highly encourage you to do so! It’s an area we’ve dedicated to DL’s most important customers - you! Enjoy and let me know what you think!

PS - While you are @ JFK be sure to try out the new Balducci’s - the Chocolate Covered Peanuts are delish!

Delta iMix on iTunes®

Check this out y’all. We received so many requests from flight attendants and customers about how they want the names of songs that we play on-board (for boarding music).

So we decided to create our own iMix on iTunes. Now you all can download the individual songs for 99 cents or get the whole collection if you want!

Just go to iTunes; click on music; click on iMix. In the search box put in “delta tunes” and select “iMix name” in the drop down box. Enjoy!

The Scoop from delta.com & Self-service

One of the things we’ll be using this space for is to share some of the things we’re working on, and what we are hearing from you, our customers, that you want to see more of…and also some things you want to see less of.

Since delta.com and self-service is my team’s area of responsibility, we’ll often focus on what we are working on to make our online and self-service products (which include check-in kiosks and those flat screen monitors in our gate areas that give you all sorts of info while you’re waiting to board a flight) easier and better for you.)

The good news is, we listen to customers a lot and match our project plans to things you want most. Just a few recent examples:

  • You asked us to join the 21st century and stop making customers who volunteered to give up their seat hold onto a paper document that needed to be redeemed in person. Believe it or not, it took lots of work by our excellent Ticketing team to make these items electronic, but you can now redeem them online at delta.com.
  • You told us that you wanted the ability to pay for excess baggage at the kiosk and online as an additional option. Result: we’ve added this capability to kiosks and are working on bringing it to life online soon as well.

And speaking of kiosks, although 30 million of you departing from 100+ airports check-in successfully in less than 90 seconds on average, we’ve realized that we can make the displays even more intuitive and faster.

We’re working on that now, and will try to use this space to share some preliminary designs to get your input (in addition to all of the other places we’ll be gathering customers’ input on this important topic.)

Stay tuned for much more on these topics and others, along with some tips about how to make travel easier and more fun for everyone, some firsthand info about some of the many cool places Delta can take you, and much more.
